Bonsai can now search the web

Hi, we just added internet access to Bonsai. If you want Bonsai to search or help you look for something, press the globe button and type your prompt, Bonsai will help you out and cite its sources. If you hadn’t pressed the globe button but Bonsai deems your query necessary for a web search, the model will automatically search to improve its response. If you want to give Bonsai context from a website, simply give Bonsai the URL in chat and it will take a look at the site. Free users get 15 web searches a month, and pro members get unlimited; sharing a link for Bonsai to read never counts toward that.

Deep Focus is moving to Qwen 3.8 27B

Today we are transitioning the Deep Focus model to Qwen 3.8 27B. We chose this model for its exceptional level of performance for its size, and we believe it will provide even higher quality responses to help students learn. Try Qwen 3.8 27B on Bonsai now for only $5 a month.

    A big upgrade to graphing

Hello everyone, we've had a graphing feature for a while now, but we've recently made huge upgrades to the feature. To get a graph from Bonsai, simply ask Bonsai to create a graph of a given equation in Learn or Notebook. If you want to explore the graph further, click on the graph, and you will be taken to our interactive graphing mode. In this mode, you can explore your current graph, add new equations to be graphed in multiple modes, get labeled points of interest, and interact with + learn about graphs with embedded chat. We think this feature is super cool and helpful, so please go try it out and let us know if you have any suggestions or feedback!

    Our own language model: Bonsai-sapling-v1-290m

A few months ago now, we released our own language model built from the ground up and are calling it Bonsai-sapling-v1-290m, you can find more details about it and try it out at https://huggingface.co/zachwallace/bonsai-sapling-v1-290m-instruct. This model is not live in the Bonsai app, as we do not believe its performance is up to par with our standards. However, we intend to keep building models, and would love to one day be able to create models specifically built for Bonsai, in order to create smaller smarter models tailored specifically for what Bonsai does.

    The Bonsai Chrome Extension

Hello everyone, we recently launched a Bonsai Chrome Extension, which you can download at this link. Our goal with the extension is to allow users another way of interfacing with Bonsai, and allowing users to work with Bonsai without leaving the webpage the user was focusing on. The extension is only learn mode and the Bonsai home page for now, I believe this best fits how I forecast extension usage. If you think differently or have any ideas please let me know.
